Anchored in misunderstandings, fear, and stereotypes, stigma can be debilitating. It is a toxin that breeds prejudice, crushing the will of individuals who bear its weight. Often, stigmatized individuals suffer in silent corners, victims to a societal attitude of contempt prior to investigation. The alarm for change should sound, compelling society to engage in active dialogue. Empathy and understanding are things not too grand to ask for. Eliminating stigma requires the collective effort to shatter stereotypes, seep through prejudices, and foster a more inclusive society. Together, we can unclench the fist of stigma to open a hand of friendship.#16#
